主题1：民族志和民族志研究方法

本次讲座对民族志和民族志研究方法进行概述。民族志对特定群体社会文化进行描述性研究，具有整体性和解释性，是一种采用田野调查和参与观察的方法理解一个群体的文化意义和社会结构的研究。民族志作为民族学、人类学的研究方法和研究过程，成为了一种广泛应用的学术利器，很多学科都开始采用民族志方法展开研究。

主题2：Idiomatic English

Chinese and English are both rich in idiomatic expressions. There is a significant difference between them, though. Of course Chinese is a much older language, and Chinese idioms have been passed down throughout a very long history. English is a newer language, only 1,000 years old, and the history of its idioms isn't the same.

One main difference is that English idioms come and go more quickly. In fact, "idiomatic" in English means "the language of the times." So we say, for example, "This was written in the idiom of Victorian England." While Chinese has new expressions all the time, in "hot wording," new Chinese idioms, as far as is understood by a foreigner, aren't as common as new idioms in English.

To add, while idioms in both languages can exhibit humor, it's believed that English leans more heavily into this aspect. To complement the idioms presented in the lecture, some videos and inspiring quotes will be interspersed in between, to keep the lecture lively.
